Paul Tweddell

Paul Twedell
Solicitor, Operations Manager and UNCAHP Project Manager

Paul graduated in Law (LLB) and Applied Finance (BAppFin) at Macquarie University in Sydney. He completed his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) at the College of Law and is admitted as a practising lawyer in Australia.

Prior to joining GAL, Paul worked at law firms in corporate law and immigration law, followed by working in animal welfare and protection at various organisations, international and local. He also works in abuse law for Shine Lawyers.

Maida Sabeta

Fundraising Manager

Maida graduated a Master of Laws (LLM) from Sarajevo University in 2007. She has a 17-year-long career in animal protection and 4 years of environmental law work experience in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Maida worked for PETA Germany as a contract campaigner, Fur Free Alliance as a campaigner and liaison officer for Cruelty Free Europe on European Citizen Initiative, as well as for numerous international and national organizations. She has worked on many different, large-scale campaigns and projects, lobbying activities on various Eastern European and European laws, including drafting animal welfare and protection laws in Eastern Europe. Maida has developed strong skills in fundraising from the organizing of various events, conferences, campaigns, and projects, mainly in Eastern European countries.

Charley Renna

Charley Renna
Head of Marketing and Communications

Charley graduated summa cum laude from Chapman University with degrees in Economics and Philosophy and has since consistently demonstrated her commitment to making a positive impact on the world. In addition to her professional background in business development and financial management, she has been actively engaged in advocacy across the fields of animal and environmental protection. At GAL, Charley advances the organization’s mission by shaping its public image through strategic marketing and compelling communications. Her aim is to inspire action for the welfare of animals through the legal system.

Joseph DaVault

Joseph DaVault
Legal Research and Technology Assistant

Joseph is in his third year at the Saint Louis University School of Law where he studies international law and environmental law. Joseph is particularly focused on the intersection of human and animal rights and how innovative technology can be used to improve the world for all. At SLU Law he helped to revive the student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund Chapter and serves as President. He additionally works with leading animal rights and law organizations in the US Midwest, such as Project Animal Freedom and the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation.

Katya Sargeant

Legal Researcher

Kat graduated from the University of Oxford and is currently completing the Graduate Diploma in Law in London, UK with the intention of practising as an animal protection barrister. Prior to her Law studies, Kat worked at PETA UK where she focused on animal-free "veganic" agriculture policy research. At GAL, Kat is a Research Assistant and enjoys supporting the organisation's social media presence.

Julius Berrien

Julius Berrien
Research Associate

Julius holds an LLB from European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), an MA in Philosophy from Durham University and is planning to commence a PhD in law in 2022.

He was a member of the board of directors of the German Animal Welfare Party (Tierschutzpartei) and a co-founder of Sea Shepherd Germany.

Julius believes that in order to achieve better protection of animals through law, we must insert animal law into law school curricula all around the world. For that reason, he founded the Animal Law Academy (www.animallawacademy.com) in Berlin. Julius very much welcomes cooperation requests regarding this matter.

Milana Bagdasarian

Milana Bagdasarian
Legal Researcher

Milana is a senior year Bachelor's student in International Relations at Collegium Civitas University in Poland. Before joining GAL, she has been actively involved in research and volunteer work in the field of animal and environmental protection. Currently, Milana's focus is on raising greater awareness of the existing problems in animal law globally through her research on countries’ legislation and promoting UNCAHP.
