Dr. Barbara Felde, Judge, Deputy Chairwoman of the German Legal Society for Animal Protection Law e. V.


Dr. Barbara Felde is a lawyer. She has been actively involved in animal welfare on a voluntary basis for over 20 years, currently keeps several dogs that have been taken away from bad homes and is Deputy Chairwoman of the German Legal Society for Animal Welfare Law (Deutsche Juristische Gesellschaft für Tierschutzrecht e.V.). She wrote her doctoral thesis on the (legislative and enforcement) problems of the Animal Welfare Act and has published several essays on animal welfare law, for example on the decision of the Federal Administrative Court on the so-called crate housing of sows and the acquittal, which received a lot of media attention, of animal rights activists who had filmed conditions in animal housing facilities that were contrary to animal welfare law before the Naumburg Higher Regional Court. After working as a legal officer and deputy data protection officer at the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in Wiesbaden, she has been a judge at the Administrative Court in Giessen since 2018.
