V. Victoria Shroff, K.C. is credited as one of Canada’s first and longest serving animal law lawyers and the longest serving in British Columbia, Canada. Shroff is author of a textbook, Canadian Animal Law (Lexis-Nexis 2021 http://ow.ly/Y5EF50FV0Ev) that’s referred to as a “capacious and compelling treatise about the state of animals today”. Shroff was named a Top 25 Most Influential Lawyer in Canada. Known as a trailblazer for her innovative practice and her teaching of animal law, Shroff has been Adjunct Professor of animal law at UBC's Allard School of Law since 2016. She created and teaches a course in animal law at Capilano University where she is faculty. Shroff teaches 'Paws of Empathy', her unique animal law program for kids which she teaches with dogs.

Shroff is an associate Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics. Shroff is founding-chair of the Canadian Animal Law Study Group. She liaises with all levels of government and was recently quoted by the office of Attorney General of BC concerning new legislation affecting companion animals https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2023AG0020-000389.

Shroff spearheaded Canada’s first pro-bono animal law clinic, has represented animals at all levels of court including Canada's highest court, the SCC. Respected for her pioneering work, Shroff has been recognized as a YWCA Women of Distinction award finalist several times, and was awarded a prestigious SEEDS award for her pioneering work in animal law and winner of the Hitachi Excellence award. She mentors students, lectures at conferences globally. Widely published, Shroff is frequently before the media about animal matters and actively volunteers in her community. Shroff is an animal law expert member of the International Conservation and Biodiversity Team based in France.

V. Victoria Shroff (she/her) is humbled and grateful to be appointed K.C., King's Counsel, for her contributions to the legal profession. Being recognized with the KC designation is a tremendous honour and milestone for Shroff personality and for the practice of animal law. She is likely the 1st animal law lawyer to receive this appointment. Only 7% of practicing B.C. lawyers can be awarded the King's counsel designation at any time. Shroff is the second lawyer in her family to be appointed KC following her father's appointment some 25 years ago.
