Global Animal Law GAL in detail
GAL was invited to present the GAL association, its aims and two of its key projects at the III Global Animal Law Conference in Hong Kong on May 4 and 5, 2018.
The two projects Antoine F. Goetschel introduced were the call to bring animals into the UN and the development of the GAL Animal Friendly Index (GALFI).
UN frame convention for animal protection: GAL is working towards a preliminary draft of a realistic framework convention for animal protection in the UN General Assembly. Animal protection is not yet anchored in the UN and GAL is now co-operating with UN legal experts to create an in depth analysis on the status quo of animals (companion, farm, experimental, wild and sports animals) in the United nations as a basis for a comprehensive convention.
GAL Animal law Friendly Index: The basis for GALFI is a very sophisticated questionnaire collecting the information on legislation, jurisdiction and education in any given country. This will be the foundation for a global rating system on animal friendliness. Results of this rating system will be encouraging less animal friendly nations to rework their legislation with regard to the animals and help them build their solutions on working approaches of other countries.
The response of the conference audience, resulting discussions and feedback of present experts have been very encouraging for us. We are on the right track with our thinking and the work we do is seen as important and much needed. We thank everyone for their encouragement and engagement alongside GAL!
