Birgitta Wahlberg
Dr. Soc.Sc (Public Law) Birgitta Wahlberg is working as International Affairs Manager at Animal Rights Sweden at the moment. Earlier she worked as a Senior Researcher and teacher at the Åbo Akademi University, Department of Law in Finland and she also teaches animal law at the University of Eastern Finland, UEF Law School, Joensuu campus.
She is the founder of the Global Journal of Animal Law (GJAL) published by Åbo Akademi University, Department of Law and was Editor-in-Chief of the journal until 2016.
Her doctoral thesis from year 2011 was on Legislation and Supervision of the Welfare of Farm and Slaughter Animals. She has published several articles on a variety of animal law topics. She is also a skilled speaker both nationally and internationally. Her main research interest is the legal status of animals in different legal systems and its impact on (farm) animals in practice. Dr. Wahlberg is the originator to the proposal of the Declaration of Animal Rights and Freedoms.
