Maureen O'Sullivan
Teacher at the National University of Ireland
My name is Maureen O'Sullivan, I lecture in Law at the National University of Ireland, Galway, I'm a Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics and am also Chairperson of the Vegetarian Society of Ireland. I hold a BA degree in Philosophy and English from UCC (Cork, Ireland) and a BCL, also from UCC. I have a research LLM from the University of Warwick and a PGCHE (Postgrad Cert. in Higher Education) from the University of the West of England, Bristol.
My interest in animal rights and welfare law is highly specialised in the area of biotechnological inventions and patent law, specifically focusing on the rights of genetically modified hybridised and chimeric beings. My PhD thesis, which I hope to complete within the next 6-12 months at the University of Edinburgh, is a critical examination of the nature of the patent system as it relates to morally controversial biotechnological inventions and methods of reform through democratic participation.
