Babara J. Gislason

Expert Barbara J. Gislason

Attorney at Law

I have been a pioneer in establishing Animal Law as an area of jurisprudence in both the State of Minnesota and the American Bar Association (ABA).
As the founding Chair of the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) Animal Law Committee, I recruited some of the best and brightest lawyers to serve in leadership, and the Committee remained the most influential of its kind in the ABA.
In 2017, I wrote Pet Law and Custody: Establishing a Worthy and Equitable Jurisprudence for the Evolving Family, a book published by the ABA Section of Family Law.
I launched the ABA's response to Hurricane Katrina by creating the ABA Animal Disaster Relief Network.
My contributions to Animal Law have been acknowledged in Time Magazine, The New York Times, and the ABA Journal, and I have lectured on Animal Law in a wide variety of venues, including in the United States, Canada, and China. Currently, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA)'s Juriste International, a magazine that reaches members in 110 countries.
The next issue of the Juriste International will have an Animal Law focus.
