Ankita Shanker earned her post-graduate degree in law from Oxford University in July 2016, and qualified as a barrister-at-law in England and Wales in November 2017. After c. 1.5 years of legal practice at international criminal courts/tribunals, she is now working towards her doctorate in animal rights law and policy, in addition to her role as a moot court coach at her home university. In her spare time, she works, pro bono, as a moot court consultant for an animal law centre, a consultant composing law and policy recommendations for the EU on behalf of the Dutch coalition for animal NGOs, a legal and policy advisor to various animal NGOs, and a trustee to a human rights policy-making think-tank. Her practice and research are aimed at securing the recognition and protection of fundamental animal rights and personhood at a global level.
